BOTOX

Freedom from Embarrassing Sweat!

Frequently Asked Questions

What areas can be treated with Botox®?
Botox® is most commonly used to treat hyperhidrosis of the armpits, palms of hands and soles of feet, face and scalp, the groin area, although it can be used anywhere where excessive sweating occurs. Up to a 98% reduction can be achieved and this lasts an average of 6.7 months.

How does Botox® work for hyperhidrosis?
Botox® temporarily blocks the nerves that stimulate sweating in the armpits, palms or other localized areas where it is injected. It is directly injected via a very small needle into the skin in the area that is sweating excessively. Normal activity can be resumed immediately; however, heavy exercise should be avoided for several hours.

How soon does the treatment work and how long does it last?
After a few days, significant reduction in sweating is seen in many patients with the full effect being seen within one week. On average most patients see a reduction in perspiration for approximately 4-6 months with one treatment.

Are there any risks or side effects?
Side effects are minimal in the axilla but may include tiny bruises which will fade in a few days and small persistent areas of sweating that may need a second treatment.

Additionally, treatment of the palms may result in transient muscle weakness in some patients.

How much do Botox® treatments cost?
A consultation is required to evaluate other potential causes of excessive sweating that could indicate a potentially serious underlying disease that requires other forms of treatment. The cost of the consultation is the cost of a usual office visit, which is $250.  This fee will be deducted from your first treatment if performed at another visit.

The cost of the actual treatment is based on the amount of Botox® used and our cost is $10/unit which is an all inclusive price.  Meaning, it will include the injection fee and disposables used (i.e. needles, syringes, etc.)  Please see the graph below for an approximate idea of the amount of Botox® needed for each area of the body.
